Acute Stroke Thrombectomy

Also known as endovascular thrombectomy, acute stroke thrombectomy is a minimally invasive procedure to remove blood clots through the brain after an ischemic stroke. A special device is used to capture and remove the clot, restoring blood flow to prevent further brain damage.

Carotid Artery and Intracranial Angioplasty and Stenting

The carotid arteries are large arteries on each side of the neck. These supply oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Stenosis, or a blockage within these arteries can reduce the flow of blood to the brain and result in a stroke. A technique called angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure to open the blocked artery, and a stent (a small metal scaffold) may be placed within the artery to keep it open. The same procedure is also used for arteries within the brain that become narrowed. This is called intracranial angioplasty and stenting.

Endovascular Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms, Arteriovenous Malformations, Dural Sinus Stenosis and Thrombosis, Dural Fistulas

An alternative to open surgery, endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms is a procedure that uses special coils or other devices to prevent blood from flowing into an aneurysm and causing it to burst. A similar procedure is used to treat arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) but uses an injection to close parts of the AVM. Endovascular treatment of dural sinus stenosis uses a stent placed within a venous sinus to relieve stenosis and increase intracranial pressure. Endovascular treatment of cerebral venous thrombosis may involve local chemical thrombolysis, balloon angioplasty or mechanical thrombectomy. Endovascular treatment for a dural fistula uses a special glue or small particles to seal off the malformation.

A medical procedure to evaluate the arteries and veins in and around the brain, a diagnostic cerebral angiogram uses x-rays and the injection of a special contrast material into the bloodstream. It helps doctors diagnose conditions such as cerebrovascular disease, stroke, vascular lesions, aneurysms and more.
